چکیده

human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients attributable to the recovery of the immune system during antiretroviral therapy. A growing number of researches on this syndrome have been conducted in recent years, but IRIS in children has not been widely studied. We report the case of a 4.5 month-old, tuberculosis (TB)-HIV co-infected girl who developed IRIS two months after beginning antiretroviral and anti-TB medications. We moreover review the immunopathogenesis of TB-HIV coinfection and IRIS, with particular regard to TB-related IRIS. SIDE EFFECTS OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM: LESSONS FROM TUBERCULOSISRELATED IMMUNE RECONSTITUTION INFLAMMATORY SYNDROME

Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome Occurring in a Kidney Transplant Patient with Extrapulmonary Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis (TB) occurring in solid organ transplantation (SOT) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality usually due to delays in diagnosis, drug toxicity encountered with antimycobacterial therapy, and drug-drug interactions. TB in SOT patients may mimic other infectious and noninfectious posttransplant complications such as posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) and...

Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome in CNS tuberculosis.

BACKGROUND Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome (IRIS), an exaggerated inflammatory response with clinical worsening due to immune recovery during treatment, is rare in the immune-competent population. CASE CHARACTERISTICS A 5-½-year old immune-competent girl with CNS tuberculosis without HIV who developed paradoxical IRIS. OUTCOME Response to supportive care along with Anti-tubercul...

Determinants of immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome in HIV type 1-infected patients with tuberculosis after initiation of antiretroviral therapy.

Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) occurred in 16 of 37 antiretroviral-naive patients who were treated subsequently for tuberculosis and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) type 1 infection. IRIS was related to increases in the CD4 cell percentage and in the ratio of CD4 cells to CD8 cells after 1 month of antiretroviral therapy and to dissemination of tuberculosis. These results...

Case Report: Tuberculosis IRIS: a mediastinal problem

We present a case of a 39 years old male patient with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) who developed Mycobacterium tuberculosis related Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome (IRIS) after initiation of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) treatment. The inflammatory response resulted in mediastinal necrotic lymphadenopathy and subsequent perforation of the esophageal wall.

Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome in a HIV-infected patient with disseminated tuberculosis.

Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) is the paradoxical worsening of pre-existing infectious processes after commencement of anti-retroviral therapy (ART) in HIV-infected patients. Its manifestations are dependent on the underlying opportunistic infections. We report a case of an HIV-infected patient with disseminated tuberculosis, who responded to anti-tuberculosis therapy but su...
